Good morning! Today is Day 3 of Mayim Bialik’s hosting stint. Thus far, $43,802 has been donated to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Newspaper Names) for Wednesday, June 2, 2021 (Season 37, Game 178):
Used as a newspaper name from New York to San Diego, it was an ancient Roman official who represented the people’s interests
An important note about today’s game: For viewers in New York City, this game will be airing on Thursday, June 3.
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Lydia Glaw, a biomedical engineer from Gaithersburg, Maryland |
John Alba Cutler, an English professor from Wilmette, Illinois |
Robin Lozano, a hospitality executive from San Antonio, Texas (1-day total: $12,601) |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: 17 years ago today, on a Wednesday, the world was introduced to Ken Jennings. I’m reasonably sure that Lydia, John, or Robin won’t win 74, but you never know. Any day can see the debut of a great champion. Robin won $12,601 yesterday after a lower-scoring game, and the prediction model doesn’t like those as much. She did show flashes of brilliance, dominating the signalling device over some stretches. More of those stretches will lead to victory #2 for her.
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to. When wearing a mask, ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

More information about Final Jeopardy: (The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2021 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
During the times of the Roman Republic, tribunes were elected officials; the most important was a group known as the plebeian tribune, who provided the most important check on the power of the Roman Senate, having the power to veto actions (thus protecting the plebeians as a class in Roman society). In today’s society, the name Tribune is a popular newspaper name; the New York Tribune was founded in the mid-19th century by Horace Greeley. After merging with the Herald in the 1920s, the Herald-Tribune lasted until a series of strikes felled the paper in the 1960s. The most famous current Tribune-named newspaper is published in Chicago.
