Cinema is dead—LONG LIVE CINEMA!Playback to five years ago, when one studio after another announced the launch of their streaming service, there was a wildfire of headlines that prophesied that #cinema was gonna die! It dominated podium discussions at every festival, and true believers like Ted Hope pointed out, that the cinematic experience cannot and must not die!Sitting in this almost sold out #IMAX theater yesterday, I can attest that cinema is indeed very much ALIVE!What's remarkable about this time, isn't that this isn't another remake or superhero comic flick, but that considering the movie theater I visited probably requires a median journey time of somewhere around 25' (one way!), meaning people actually had to go outside, leave the comfort of their streaming couch, on a lovely sunny Sunday evening, to see #OPPENHEIMER or #BARBIE in cinemas!Also bear in mind, they watched yesterday’s screening in original soundtrack with our local language subtitles. I cannot tell you, how rare of a sight that is!There were couples, singles, groups of 5 and even a group of 20+ friends! How awesome is that?! And what a testament to the unique communal experience that's defining cinema!It's particular great to see that OPPENHEIMER, whose important story is "absolutely a cautionary tale" as Christoper Nolan put it, is resonating in this current climate within the culture, and creating a heightened awareness and FOMO&WOM factor (propelling its visibility even higher) that are off the charts, while reminding us about the horrors we need not to repeat ever again.Kudos to all the crews and people pulling this box office phenomenon off the ground!#impactentertainment #Barbenheimer #filmindustry #positiveimpact #popculture

Premiering exclusively in North American theaters on October 13 the Taylor Swift "Eras Tour" concert-film will offer fans who were unable to buy seats to the tour due to widespread ticketing issues a chance to finally watch the global spectacle. The film will act as a far smaller, yet impactful added revenue stream for the tour which is slated to generate over $1 billion in revenue by the time the tour concludes next year. Theater stocks also rallied on the news with AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. jumping as much as much as 10% in premarket trading before paring gains to 4.5% shortly after the market opened on Thursday. With tickets flying off the shelves, theaters have added extra showtimes in anticipation. This comes at a time when many big-budget films are postponing their releases, making Swift's film a bright spot in a challenging landscape. The film is even bypassing the traditional studio system, being distributed directly by AMC Entertainment. With ticket prices higher than typical admission and unique in-cinema experiences, this could very well set a new precedent for boosting movie theater revenues.Is Taylor Swift's blockbuster success with her concert film following her Eras Tour an indicator that more artists should consider similar strategies? UK Cinema Admissions down 25.9% v 2019 to the end of Q3 2023: As Bloomberg's Lucas Shaw predicted back in Feb: “Is 2023 the year of the movie theatre comeback?...Grosses are up from last year, which were up from the year before. But movie ticket sales are still well below pre-pandemic levels. The release schedule is stacked from mid-February through July, starting with the new Ant-Man and running all the way through #oppenheimer and #barbiemovie . But then there is nothing of note – absolutely nothing – in August, September, and October. And the release slate in December has no #avatar . It feels like grosses may tick up from last year, but not by a ton. A modest increase won’t be enough to save Cineworld Group Plc the bankrupt theatre chain and could cause problems for AMC Theatres the heavily indebted movie theatre chain. Those are the two largest theatre owners, and they will both close sites this year.
