Does Medicaid pay for assisted living in Minnesota? ›

Changes effective August 1, 2021

On August 1, 2021 all Assisted Living Facilities in Minnesota will have to be licensed – either as an Assisted Living Facility, or an Assisted Living Facility With Dementia Care.

To qualify financially, an elder must have limited assets or a low monthly income. Assets can be no greater than $3,000 or the elder's income must be less than $1,234 a month.

Requirements for Licensure

Complete a course of study with a minimum of 80 hours in core curriculum. Complete a field experience under the direction of a mentor. Successfully pass examinations on the Minnesota, Core, and Line of Service training.
